Pattern can be created in a single-color braid by combining different structures to produce areas of texture and ground. In the demonstration of how the taka dai works, we saw the 2/2 Twill sequence - Over two, under two, over two, etc. Using this same sequence for the length of the braid produces the smoothly textured braid at left. The diagram below shows the 2/2 twill sequence throughout the braid. The dark line at the center shows the point of braiding as the braid progresses. |
